Overall, education is one of the most involved sectors for what concerns technological innovation and digital transformation.<\/p><p>In a previous article,\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitecoelearning.eu\/en\/e-learning-trends-for-2020-and-gen-z\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">e-learning Trends for 2020<\/a><\/em>, we already talked about the\u00a0<strong>LMS platforms of the future<\/strong>, which will be characterised by a high rate of interaction with the learner, and about the need to identify increasingly attractive solutions in order to keep up with the market.<\/p><p>In this article, we will explore two standards used by Distance Learning courses developers to make the learning experience more interactive:\u00a0<strong>SCORM\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0xAPI<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fa122fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fa122fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">THE SCORM STANDARD: DEFINITION AND CHARACTERISTICS <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2baabce elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2baabce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>SCORM is the acronym for \u201cShareable Content Object Reference Model\u201d and it is a reference model widely used in e-learning. On a technical level, a SCORM package consists of a zip file which, in addition to the reference educational material, contains a file that describes its structure, contents and roll-up logics. Moreover, the results will be immediately visible to the learner, reducing the correction times and making learning experiences more effective and efficient<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-82b2b17 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"82b2b17\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">THE NEW STANDARD OF EXPERIENCE API <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-be5f494 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"be5f494\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>xAPI<\/strong>\u00a0is a specification for learning technologies which enables to collect data about the online and offline experiences that a person can do. APIs capture data from different technologies in a consistent format. Thus, very different systems can communicate securely by collecting and sharing the flow of activities through the xAPI vocabulary.<\/p><p><strong>xAPI has a syntax based on basic statements:<\/strong>\u00a0actor + verb + object. As soon as the users reconnect to the network, the app will send the data collected to the LRS. This possibility makes xAPI the most suitable standard for mobile learning<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li class=\"elementor-icon-list-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span <\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9329322 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9329322\" be found a summary of the main differences between SCORM and xAPI, in order to better understand why the SCORM standard is destined to disappear and give way to the innovative xAPI in the creation of online courses.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-704185c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"704185c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>xAPI<\/strong>\u00a0opens up a world of possibilities to provide e-learning focused on people, because it gives the opportunity to understand better the learner\u2019s behaviour and the effectiveness of learning experiences.<\/p><p>What has been said in this article shows that, in not-so-distant future, the SCORM content will be replaced by xAPI as regards\u00a0<strong>distance education<\/strong>\u00a0and, for this reason, the content should be converted into xAPI to remain up to date with innovation. To support this prediction, just think that the most recent version of the format that until now represents the standard is SCORM 1.2 (or SCORM 2004), updated over 10 years ago!
